I was sitting on the floor crying, having poured my heart and soul into a project I was deeply passionate about, without warning, the company I had been involved with for the last 3 and a half years, pulled its involvement in Australia and withdrew its support.
I was angry and disappointed. I had given everything, and just like that, it was gone.
In that moment, I realised something important: the only way to ensure a successful future was to back myself.
I’ve always been an entrepreneur, but after being burned by my past experiences, I was trepidatious about setting out on another venture.
It wasn’t that I lacked the capability or strength to start over. I knew I had it in me because I’d done it before.
This time was different; the stakes were so much higher. I wasn’t just doing this for myself; I had two little kids who were reliant on me for everything. I had 100% custody, there was no one else…which made every decision feel bigger, heavier, and more important.
I knew I had to step up. I wanted to make my kids proud and give them the life they deserved. Which in my heart of hearts I knew meant building something of my own again.
So I looked inward, asking myself what I was good at, what could I offer as a solution to a problem, that hadn’t been done before…. This is when my mum’s words came rushing back:
“Kitty, why don’t you start a business helping others the way you’ve helped yourself, get out of debt?”
And for the first time, I truly considered it.
In the past, I had resisted the idea. When you’re in debt, it’s a heavy burden to carry. The stigma, the shame, the silence, it’s overwhelming.
If I’m honest, the last thing I wanted was to stay in the conversation of debt any longer than I had to.
Yet I knew I had a solution not many people knew about.
So, I made a promise to myself: if I was going to do this, I would do it differently.
I would bring light, love, and real solutions to people facing one of the darkest times in their lives.
And so, Debt Angel Solutions was born.
I didn’t have any money. I didn’t have a degree in finance. In fact, the last thing my Maths teacher ever said to me was, “Kitty, it’s a good thing you’ll never need Maths again.” Lol
I didn’t let any of that stop me. While what I was doing was technically about money and finance, at its core, it was all about people and advocating for their rights based on their unique situation.
This work wasn’t about numbers. It was about compassion. It was about addressing the disservice being done when creditors fail to inform people in financial distress that they have options.
People needed to know they have choices, but no one was telling them what was possible (and for the most part still aren’t 🙁 )
Even when people were asking for help, most of the time, they were not getting it. Not in the way they should have. That broke my heart. Especially as I knew things could be different.
I was blown away that nobody was assisting people in this way . I couldn’t find anyone offering informal debt agreements. All I saw were people offering consolidation loans, which, in reality, turned out to be Part 9 Debt Agreements. This is an act of bankruptcy and, from what I could see, didn’t involve much real work or support to the client in helping them transform their ways so they never got back into the situation again.
It was a conveyor belt solution,…deal with the person, wrap up their case with a bow and send them on their way paying $$ each week/fortnight/ month for the next 3-5 years… then move onto the NEXT person…
For me, it’s always been about transforming the narrative. I felt that a light needed to be shone on what was possible and no one was addressing the fundamental issue: the lack of financial literacy, shame and embarrassment that left people feeling anxious, isolated, and overwhelmed.
What was missing was genuine guidance, someone walking alongside the client to actually transform not just their financial position, but their mindset too. Which is what we do and what we set out to do from the very beginning.
That’s why Debt Angel Solutions is so different. There was a huge opportunity to take what I had learned about debt relief solutions, coaching, and providing support, and make it available to people who desperately wanted to get out of debt and transform their financial situation.
I’m so incredibly proud to say that over the last 10 years, we’ve helped around 650 people save over $17 million dollars in principal debt, interest and fees.
More than that, we’ve helped them turn their lives around. We’ve stood beside single parents, small business owners, young people, older people, people who thought they had run out of options.
People who were drowning in debt now own investment properties.
People who didn’t think they could afford to start a family have gone on to have children, something they never thought would be possible before working with us.
People who felt stuck in relationships, jobs, or situations that no longer served them have broken free and created futures they’re excited about.
They’ve followed their passions. Rewritten their money stories.
They’ve quit smoking or drinking, addictions they used to cope with financial stress.
They’ve healed.
Yes, it’s been tough. Running a business, managing a team, raising my kids on my own, all while holding space for the deeply personal journeys our clients go through, it’s a lot.
But I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
This work hasn’t just helped others find freedom. It’s given me the freedom to show up for my children, to create something meaningful, and to grow in ways I never imagined.
To every person who’s ever trusted us with their situation. Thank you.
You’re the reason we do what we.
Every call you made, every truth you shared, every brave step you took toward freedom has shaped what Debt Angel Solutions is today. Your courage, your resilience, and your willingness to let us walk beside you have been one of the greatest honours of my life.
To my team, our Angels, past and present, you’ve held this vision with me through the hardest days and the most beautiful wins. You’ve shown up with heart, grit, and an unshakable commitment to doing what’s right, even when it’s hard. You’ve shown up with integrity, compassion, and fire, and I’m endlessly grateful.
And to my beautiful kids, now grown, independent, and thriving… You were my reason then, you are my reason now, and you will forever be the soul behind every choice I’ve made. You gave me the strength to keep going when I wanted to give up. You are, and will always be, my proudest achievement.
To anyone reading this who feels like you’re under it:
You are not a failure. You are not alone.
You are simply human, doing your best in a system that wasn’t built to support you.
You don’t have to do it alone anymore.
You just need someone who truly sees you. Who listens without judgment.
Someone who knows the way forward, because they’ve walked it too.
That’s what we’re here for.
So today, I raise a heartfelt toast:
To ten years of grit, grace, and lives forever changed.
To every client who had the courage to face their situation and took that terrifying, beautiful first step with us.
To every story that brought us here, and the ripple effect those stories continue to have.
To my team, my Angels, who’ve carried this mission with strength and soul, even when it was hard.
To myself, for holding the line, for choosing purpose, and for never giving up, even when I had every reason to.
And to you… reading this now, silently rooting for us, and maybe even for yourself.
Here’s to the next decade.
Bring it on.
Important to note – We’re only just getting started.
With much love,
Kitty xx
